Shear madness

While I was home tending to Amalia's mucus (see previous post), I sent Andy and Lily out to get haircuts. Apparently my daughter took a left turn at the Bahamas.

The good, the bad, and the goopy

The good: We spent a wonderful Thanksgiving with friends who have kids about the same age as the girls.

Betcha didn't know that, like Halloween, Thanksgiving requires costume changes. With Lily and Sloane it does.

The sad thing is, we didn't start taking pictures until a few costumes in. I think you guys missed the mermaid and various other princess iterations.

Even Amalia got into the spirit, donning Sloane's headpiece with her matching PJs and pink hanger.

The bad and the goopy: Amalia has since come down with a serious case of conjunctivitis.

Yeah, but you should see the other guy.

Parity

Lest I be accused of neglecting my second-born, here's Amalia dancing to some "Toddler Favorites," as the CD from the library calls them. (Heaven knows we wouldn't want to own this priceless collection of earworm-inducing songs.)

Pilgrims and Indians

Today was the Pre-K Thanksgiving Feast at Lily's school. What a treat. After the performance, we all enjoyed a potluck lunch sitting in tiny plastic chairs.

I guess it's good that Lily gets used to standing in the back row early in life. As a child of 6' parents, it's likely to become a familiar view.

Don't blame me

I apologize if you're eating as you read this, but Andy thought I should blog the following tidbit from Lily:

"If you eat something and you throw it up, it doesn't become poop."

Again, sorry.

On an equally disgusting note, three times this week Lily asked me to pack her a sandwich made of American cheese and spinach leaves on whole wheat bread. No, I'm not kidding. The only thing that would make it even more gag-reflex-inducing is mayo, which she thankfully does not have me add.

Did you know?

Comfy clothes

I may have mentioned before that Lily and I usually change our clothes when we we get home from work/school. I opt for a t-shirt and jeans or sweats; Lily, for something "pretty."

What you can't tell from the pictures below is that her white shirt is actually a leotard that has a tutu tucked into the fleece pants. She felt like the yellow rain boots were the finishing touch and asked me to take a picture of her while dancing. Happy to indulge.

Daddy daycare

Andy had the girls on Veterans Day since my office was still open. He took this video and said that one must both watch and listen to get a sense for what's going on.

At random

Nothing really holds this blog entry together, so just dive in...

Lily has taken to coloring with Sharpies. Yes, this puts our household items at risk, but we figure it's worth the potential payoff of getting her comfortable with the implement of choice for celebrity autograph signings. (We've even indulged her and purchased pens in colors other than black and red.)

New purple headband courtesy of one of Andy's co-workers. As if she needs encouraging.

Lily anecdote from this morning: We asked her if she wanted grape jam on her English muffin. She said, "Well, what if it's a French muffin?" Andy thought that would be a croissant.

This is what you get when you tell Amalia to smile. Our delicate flower, she is not.

Guess what this pile of leaves looked like after Amalia was through.

I'm not sure where she gets it, but Amalia often walks around in the pose of a contemplative Japanese man.
