Mixing wine and weapons

Today's archery shoot was called "Arrows in the Vineyard," located at the gorgeous Kirigin Cellars in Gilroy. Adult competitors each received a free bottle of wine.
 Lily got squat.
 Setting up.

Lily was very impressed with Eddy, who would pull the arrow back with his mouth.
 The contemplative archer.
The Stanford Archery Club was there. Andy chatted with their assistant coach. (No, they do not give out scholarships.)
At lunch break, Andy went to the wine tasting room. My parents probably know what this grape contraption is.
 Winner again!
 A gold medal!

Andy bought a bottle of the wine.

Chopped champion

Last night while Amalia was at a friend's house for a sleepover, Lily wanted to make a Chopped meal from the new recipe book she got at her school's Scholastic Book Fair.
She single-handedly made Nutty Tropical Kale and Rice Salad while I made Sauteed Chicken with Quick Mole Sauce.
Everything was delicious!

Scouts on parade

Yesterday, Amalia marched in her first parade with her Daisy Girl Scout troop. The occasion was the Willow Glen Founders' Day Parade. Willow Glen is a cute neighborhood just a mile or so from where we live.

I have no idea what she's doing with her face, but clearly she's very excited.
More excitement.
 Lining up!
Here they come! Oh, and right behind the parade banner is the Ida Price Middle School Band, which Lily may be joining in a couple of years. (Not to digress, but Lily has decided to join her elementary school band this year. She's going to try out the flute. Perhaps she can soon play duets with Grandma Kathy!)
Back to the parade--here are the Girl Scouts!
 Check out the wave.
I appreciate that it's a regular human wave--not the princess kind.
I won't bore you with a ton of parade pictures, but here are a few highlights. Horses, of course.
There were a bunch of VW Bugs, which Andy enjoyed.
Also a bunch of old cars, which my parents would have enjoyed. (Maybe you guys can come up and be in the parade next year!)
And of course, the horse pooper scooper--and dad with stroller(?).
Post-parade lunch stop.

Lily style

Ever since she was a toddler, Lily has had a special knack for putting together "outfits." Today she was especially proud of her new maxi skirt and camo hat. I just didn't know it would all go together so well. Of course, I also think it makes her look about 12, which is a bit disconcerting.

Swimsuits and bumbershoots

On Saturday we met up with my friend Nancy and her son, Joaquim, for a swim date.

Despite my initial resistance, Amalia's intention to bring her umbrella actually turned out to be pretty adorable.

Chalk it up

Amalia moved up a level in gymnastics this morning and now gets to start learning actual events. At break she came to show me the chalk on her hands from working on the bars.

Trading places

Conversations tonight at dinner:
Lily: Mom, do you remember that software program we used to do in second grade, First in Math?
Me: Yes.
Lily: I used to log in to my friends' accounts to help them.
Me: You mean, like cheating?
Lily: No...well, maybe. But that was a long time ago!

And a bit later...
Lily: There was a boy who had like 10,000 points. I'm pretty sure he hacked into it.
Me: Really, why do you think so?
Lily: Well, he had thousands of points. Plus, I Googled how to hack into First in Math.
Me (one eyebrow raised): Really?
Lily: Yeah. And he must have been using Chrome because you have to have Chrome to hack into it.

Amalia was very excited about getting her first homework packet today:
Amalia: When we get home, can I please, please, please do my homework tonight? [It's Friday.]
Me: You can do one page but you don't need to do the whole packet tonight. You have all week.
Amalia: But I really want to!

Game on

Decked in Cardinal red at breakfast before the first Stanford football game of the season.
Perhaps in honor of the Aggies (we played UC Davis), Amalia found an inchworm in front of the restaurant.
The pre-game FanFest area also had a petting zoo.

"The Walk" (that's Coach Shaw giving the high five in the middle (black hat).
First look at this year's Tree. He danced so hard during the game, he lost an eyeball.

Photo op.
 Helmet head.
Waiting for the team to take the field.
The tradition continues. This year Lily spent a fair amount of the game reading The Hunger Games.
Next week's game against the Trojans should be much tougher.
Post-game singing of our alma mater.
