Motorin'

In related news, we ordered a couple of baby gates today. Andy says that one of them can withstand up to 200 lbs. of pressure. I hope it holds.

Discussion on the bus

Lily: Mommy, did you know that when worms die it's different than when people die?

Me: Really? How so?

Lily: Well, when worms die, they're still here. But when people die, they're not.

(This was after she told me, "Sometimes, when you play with worms too much, they die." A lesson we learned during our tree planting on Sunday.)

Going green thumbs

We planted a tree in our front yard today. Lily made friends with some earthworms and Andy became eligible for a $50 rebate from DC, as part of the city's re-greening efforts. Amalia pretty much just hung around and tried to eat dirt, grass, and leaves.

Spring has sprung

Here are a couple of clips of the happy baby in action. (I guess I should remember to tell Andy when I'm recording.)

Here comes Peter Cottontail

Taking a break today from the cruise photos. Here are few images from this morning's in-house Easter festivities.

DDR Newbies

They had a Dance Dance Revolution-type game in the arcade. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time. Sorry the video of Andy is sideways.

The music

Almost any time of day (well, except for 6 a.m. - noon), somewhere on the ship, there was live music.

The man of the hour, John Mayer, for whom our cruise was named (Mayercraft Carrier 2).

Guster. We saw them perform twice -- once on the Lido deck and once in the main concert hall (the "Spec Spec," short for "Spectacular Spectacular." Yes, it's that wonderful.). 3 out of 4 of the band members have babies now, so that's another thing my groupie self can chat with them about.

Erin McCarley. She was great. I tried to buy her CD at the merch store, but it was sold out.

Joe Pisapia. A member of Guster. The only one without a baby (as far as I know).

There were a ton of other acts on board. I just don't have any pictures of them.

Next up: some non-music-related highlights.

It was that kind of cruise

We just returned from a trip out to SoCal. The primary purpose was a 5-day concert cruise to Cabo. A bunch of fun bands were on board, including my favorite guys, Guster, as well as John Mayer (the headliner--you may have heard of him), and O.A.R. There was also this inexplicable line of sparkly naked mannequins outside one of the clubs onboard. Lily was mesmerized.

We were on the 21,000-square-foot Splendor, the newest in Carnival's line of "Fun Ships."

Lily didn't much care for the life boat drill, but things definitely got better afterward. More posts to follow.
