New do

Lily decided to get her hair cut "short" today. I think Andy was the only one who had any trepidation about this, as he warned Lily about how much of her hair would be cut off and that he didn't want any crying. Lily was totally fine.

Oh, Amalia

It's been quite a week for our younger offspring. We had our first crib-vaulting incident the other night. I was also heard to say at some point this week, "Don't put that banana on your foot." More snippets from Amalia's week are below.

Yard work

Back home after the park, we put the girls to work in the front yard.

They then took a well-deserved break and cooled off in the sprinklers.

Not any ole Sunday

As if it isn't bad enough that we didn't go to church this morning, we further spread our heathen ways by preventing our neighbors from attending Mass last night. After dinner, the girls heard the boys on the porch next door and immediately made their way over there. Only when I got over there could I see that they were all dressed up. Ah well. I think Luis and Maria may have been happy for an excuse not to try to sit through a two-hour Mass with 2-year-old twins.

Amalia's basket, hidden in plain sight.

Lily's basket, a bit more challenging.

Heading to the park.

A whale of a good time.

Getting tired.

Watch out, world!

Chatterboxes

Out of the mouths of the Pierce girls today:

Lily (when crossing the bridge over the Potomac): The water is so sparkly. It looks like daytime stars fell from the sky.

Amalia (when asked if she buckled her carseat): I got it!

Lily (when letting Amalia hold one of her toys): It's yours. For now, at least.

Amalia (after seeing Andy toss some weeds from the front yard): Daddy threw flowers!

And yes, the exclamation points on Amalia's statements are purposeful.

Plan B

We had big plans to take in the cherry blossoms at the Tidal Basin today. But after playing TourMobile in our Highlander for about an hour with nary a parking spot to be seen, we decided we'd gotten the gist of the blossoms (They're pretty. We get it.) and made our way to Theodore Roosevelt Island. The weather could not have been lovelier and our city girl got quite a dose of nature.

The view is better up here.

At one point, Lily said her skin was getting itchy though she hadn't stepped off the trail at all. Perhaps she's allergic to the outdoors.

Snake's alive!

Amalia missed out on all the island fun because she's enjoying (hopefully) her second day at her new daycare. Here's a picture of her bonding with Andy last night.

Gate crashers

Our girls recently have become smitten with the twin boys next door. (Actually, while I think Amalia truly does love the boys, who are about 4 months her senior, Lily is really just after their impressive toy set-up.)

Of some concern, the affection verges on stalking, with both girls constantly on the lookout for any sign of Santiago and Bautista. I am informed of when the neighbors' car is and is not at home. When the car is indeed in the driveway, but the boys are nowhere to be seen, Amalia usually concludes, "Boys sleeping."

Below are some pics from our impromptu playdate this afternoon. ("Oh hi, fancy meeting you here!")

While the proximity to playmates is nice, when the relationship goes south, one of us is going to have to move.
