Playing with food

It's come to our attention that kids' magazines are full of food projects. Here are a few of Lily's latest feats:

Monkey muffins, which she did not eat.

Polar bear dessert, of which she ate only the blueberry eyes, nose and claws.

Sunny breakfast, of which she ate every last bit, plus another egg after that one.

Not shown: bread bears and biscuit bears (when we ran out of bread dough).

Snookered

I wonder, if I'd been the one to help chaperone Lily's class field trip to "Disney on Ice" today instead of Andy, would we still have ended up with a plastic Minnie Mouse in our house?

Warm weather

This past weekend, the D.C. weather gods taunted us with unseasonably warm temperatures (low 60s). We took advantage by spending whatever time we could outside.

Here's Amalia enjoying Andy's wind chimes (a Christmas present) on the front porch.

What kids pick up at school

It's well known that Lily's teachers in the Threes Room are both coffee lovers. (They're also fans of Alf -- you know, that furry alien from the 1980s TV sitcom -- but that's another story.)

So, I guess I should not have been surprised to learn that yesterday, when Lily was apparently startled by one of her friends at school, she exclaimed, "You scared the latte out of me!"

Eating machine

Amalia's quite an eager eater. (Of course, in the above clip, she's a bit distracted by the camera.) We've already tried rice cereal, sweet potatoes, carrots, peas and prunes. All of which she is quite open to. We'll move on to more fruits and veggies soon.

All signs point to her being as good an eater as her older sister. Before we know it, she'll be munching on tofu, artichokes and mushrooms, just like Lily.

The little things in life

Sleep is a beautiful thing.

So is beer.

Just kidding. Lily likes hers on draft.

Reducing mom spam

In an attempt to reduce the amount of mom spam flying through the ethernet, I've decided to start a blog. This gives you the power to visit as often as you'd like to see cute photos of the girls and hear stories about how clever they are--rather than my shoving it down the throat of your email inbox.

This photo was taken on Inauguration Day, which was quite an event here in DC. Across the nation, too, I suppose, but the energy and excitement were truly palpable here -- even for those of us not down on the Mall.

P.S. This blog was originally created a long time ago -- before Amalia was even a twinkle in our eye -- hence her absence from the name. And so it begins...
