Existential angst

Amalia: Do you know what the fastest things are?
Me: What?
Amalia: Ghosts.
Me:
Amalia: True.
Me: How do you know that?
Amalia: Nate told me.
Lily: Nate's a Pre-Ker. Never trust a Pre-Ker. They're usually wrong.
Me: Amalia, what do you think?
Amalia: I say yes because they're really fast.
Lily: Well, how do you know they're even real? They can't be the fastest thing if they don't exist.

Survey monkey

Conversation after this evening's bath.

Amalia: What's your favorite animal? A turtle because it's green?
Me: A giraffe because it's tall.
Amalia: I like zebras and horses.
Lily: I like dogs.
Amalia: Do you mean puppies?
Lily: No, I mean dogs. Not all dogs are puppies.
Amalia: When they're born they're puppies.
Lily: Well, I don't like puppies with no hair. They look like a naked mole rat.
Amalia: (hysterical laughter) Naked!

Spring has sprung?

Nothing gets the girls out of bed faster than the report of snow. They got dressed and went outside to clear off the car.

Looks like Punxsutawney Phil was wrong this year; this was my view on the way to work.

 It sure is pretty, though.

In other news, Amalia and Jake are becoming more comfortable with each other.

All in her head

Why Lily can multiply 3 times 24--in her head--to get 72 ("wait, wait, don't tell me!"), but can't figure out 15 minus 6 on her math schoolwork?

Child labor

We put the girls to work today helping us move a bunch of stuff to a storage unit (so our soon-to-be-sold house looks oh-so-spacious). We couldn't have asked for a more cheerful, energetic pair of movers. They helpfully kept themselves occupied while we loaded up the truck back at the house and then carted dollies back and forth countless times between Andy and me (Andy in the truck, me in the unit) once we got to the storage place. They're so much more useful now that they're getting older!

Take a good look at this stuff. We likely won't see it again until the CA move in June. (If Andy were writing this entry, he might tell you how impressed he was with my Tetris-like stacking abilities. We could've fit a whole other truckload in here!)

Payback

I walked into my bedroom and thought we'd been hit by some sort of poltergeist.

But apparently this is what happens when you tell a 4-year-old she can't use the Sharpies to color and then she tries to anyway and you immediately proceed to throw all of the Sharpies in the trash.

I tried to act really upset so that she doesn't feel the need to up the retribution ante.

The morning after

 Amalia and Zeina.

Pancakes!

 Dressing up.

Dressing, um, I don't know what.

Girl power

Lily decided that she and Amalia should match.

Today is Amalia's official first sleepover with her buddy Zeina. So naturally Lily had to have a friend over as well. Lots of shrieking ensued.

Last week was a co-worker's birthday, so Lily made a card for (of) him.

I think she captured the resemblance quite nicely.
